Red Wing, MN in February
As part of my Creative Individuals Grant I traveled to my first destination this past weekend and spent two nights in Red Wing, MN.
I took the Amtrak Borealis train from St. Paul, MN to Red Wing, MN - a 45 minute ride along the river on a double decker train. I stayed in a small room walking distance to the river and the Main Street area of town. The weather averaged about -20 degrees fahrenheit the last couple of days. I dressed accordingly so that I could take a couple of cold but sunny walks during my stay.
I ended up hiking up the hill to the Goodhue County Historical Society, where they have a small trail system and a series of steps that drop you off of the bluff into town. I walked down to the river to Bay Point Park and saw the frozen river encase boat houses at the marina. I hiked up to the top of Memorial Park and was greeted by two eagles. I enjoyed dinner at the St. James Hotel restaurant and watched steam cascade off the Mississippi river at twilight.
Below are some images I took during my walks and some colored pencil sketches created while warm inside.
